Was the nation's top senior butterflyer in 1978 for Cyprus High ... his high school coach was his father, Darwin, who coached him to high school All-American honors for three years ... his father was an All-American at Utah ... set the BYU pool record in the 100-yard fly at 49.84 in the state AAA finals as a prep ... also won the state 200 IM title ... came within seconds of breaking Olympian Mark Spitz's national prep best ... his 1:49.6 clocking at the AAU finals in Austin, Texas, in 1978 is better than the existing school and pool records ... Corey is world ranked in the 200 fly ... scored three first-place finishes in 1981 in the 200 IM, 100 fly and 200 fly while also pacing the 800 free relay to the number one spot ... even after having fallen off his bike and separated his shoulder, Killpack still competed in the NCAA meet and finished 13th, just seven one-hundredths of a second from making the All-American team ... two weeks after the 1981 NCAA meet, he swam in the U.S. Senior Open Championships and finished 10th ... never lost a dual meet fly race as a freshman, swimming against four of the top ten teams in the nation that year ... served a two-year LDS mission to Spain where Cougar basketball star Devin Durrant was his companion for three months ... former WAC record holder in the 800-yard free ... placed fifth in the NCAA for 800 free.
