EUGENE, Oregon – Day two of the NCAA Track and Field Division I Championships featured only two BYU athletes, middle-distance runner Shea Collinsworth and decathlete Jackson Walker, but both represented the Cougars well with strong performances.

Collinsworth competed in the women’s 800m, entering the competition with the third-fastest time in the nation. She not only finished first in her heat, but also logged the fastest time of the day in her event with a mark of 2:03.32. She will compete in the women’s 800m final on Saturday.

Junior Jackson Walker completed the decathlon events today, competing in the 110m hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1500m. He ended with a total score of 7004 to finish 19th overall, and earning USSTFCCCA Honorable Mention All-American honors.

BYU finished the first two days of championship competition as the only team in the NCAA to have both a male and female qualifier in the 800m final. Likewise, the Cougars were the only team to accomplish the same feat at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

The track and field action continues tomorrow, with the first events of the day beginning at 12:30 p.m. PDT. Distance runner Aaron Fletcher will compete in the men’s 1500m final and Shaquille Walker will run in the men’s 800m final. Rory Linkletter will get his first opportunity to run this week in the men’s 5000m, and senior Zach Blackham will compete in the men’s high jump final.
