Seymour, Ellsworth-Barnes set top-10 times as Bryan Clay concludes

AZUSA, Calif. — Led by its distance runners, BYU women’s track and field athletes competed at the Bryan Clay Invitational, 62nd Annual Mt. SAC Relays and the Beach Invitational on Friday.

Bryan Clay Invitational
Alena Ellsworth (2nd, 53.68), Claire Seymour (3rd, 53.69) and Meghan Hunter (7th, 54.52) filled the top-seven of the 400m. Seymour’s new personal best time helped her enter the top-10 ranks at No. 5 all-time, where Ellsworth and Hunter currently reside at third and sixth, respectively.

Lauren Ellsworth-Barnes posted a runner-up finish in the invite heat of the 1500m, clocking a 4:13.60 to finish just in front of BYU alumnus Anna Camp-Bennett. Ellsworth-Barnes’ time moved her from No. 10 to No. 9 on the Cougars’ top-10 board.

Mt. SAC Relays
Rebekah Ross placed eighth in the collegiate B section of the pole vault, setting a new personal best mark of 4.00m/13-1.5 in her young freshman career.

Fellow freshman pole vaulter Nikki Naatjes made her BYU debut in collegiate section C, finishing ninth with a mark of 3.70m/12-1.5.

Beach Invitational
Women’s throwers began competition in Long Beach on Friday. Ashton Riner (55.14m/180-11), Alex McAllister (46.18m/151-6) and Libby Parkinson (45.72m/150-0) finished third, fifth and seventh, respectively, to place three Cougars in the top-seven of the javelin throw.

The Cougars will compete in the discus throw (10 a.m. PDT) and shot put (3 p.m. PDT) at the Beach Invitational, and Cierra Tidwell-Allphin will represent the BYU women in the high jump (12:30 p.m. PDT) at the Mt. SAC Relays to close out the weekend in Southern California on Saturday.
