BYU women climb in rankings to No. 11

NEW ORLEANS – The BYU women’s track and field team moved up to No. 11 in the most recent U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Rating Index released on Monday.

Moving up nine spots in the rankings, the 11th-ranked women’s team received its highest in-season ranking since 2009. In the USTFCCCA men’s ratings, BYU continues to remain in the top 10 at No. 6.

The women’s team also boasts the top-ranked 800m squad, 1500m squad and 3000m steeplechase squad. Lauren Ellsworth-Barnes, Erica Birk-Jarvis, Whittni Orton and Andrea Stapleton-Johnson combine for a total of six individual marks that rank top 10 amongst the NCAA women this season.

The BYU men’s 3000m steeplechase, 10,000m and decathlon squads sit atop the USTFCCCA event rankings. Conner Mantz currently leads the NCAA with the top 10,000m time run this season (28:18.18). Mantz, Rory Linkletter, Clayton Young, Clayson Shumway, Matt Owens and Jacob Heslington combine for a total of seven individual marks that rank top 10 in the NCAA.
