PROVO, Utah – After the first day of competition at the BYU Robison Invitational Wednesday, Elizabeth Wilson sits in second place in the heptathlon behind Southern Utah’s Shaye Maurer with 3,076 points.

“Even though Elizabeth ran well in the 100-meter hurdles, it wasn’t her best time,” BYU coach Patrick Shane said. “However, she put together a string of personal bests for the heptathlon in the next few events. She is on track to 5,200 plus points. She should have a strong day tomorrow and will be a challenger to take the lead.”

BYU’s Brie Simmons and Sidney Reilly are currently ranked third and sixth, respectively.

Wilson began the competition with a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (15.75) but gradually gained ground on the leader with first-place finishes in the high jump and the shot put.

In the high jump, Wilson cleared a new personal best height of 1.70 meters (5-07.00). In the shot put, she finished with a mark of 12.73m (41-09.25). She placed fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 26.35.

Simmons' strongest performance of the day came from the 100m hurdles. She finished second overall with a time of 14.70.

Reilly finished fourth overall in the shot put for her strongest performance with a mark of 10.69m (35-00.75).

The Cougars are back in action tomorrow to finish the heptathlon beginning with the long jump at 12 p.m. MDT.
