Women's track finishes Sun Angel Classic with five personal bests

TEMPE, Ariz. – Led by Allysa Hansen in the 400-meter hurdles and Ashleigh Warner in the 1,500 meters, the BYU women’s track and field team finished competition at the Sun Angel Classic Saturday with five personal-best marks.

“This was another good meet,” BYU coach Patrick Shane said. “We keep chipping away week by week. We had several personal bests and some great performances. Our athletes are getting the job done a little bit at a time and are heading in the right direction."

Hansen, who sat out last year due to reconstructive knee surgery, placed fourth with a time of 1:00.77, a new personal best in the 400. Angela Shields (1:02.11) and Kaylee Packham (1:02.79) finished sixth and eighth.

In the distance events, Warner finished second in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:34.51. In the premiere section of the 1,500, Lindsey Sowards Neilson and Jessica Hilton finished ninth and 10th overall with times of 4:26.18 and 4:27.28, respectively. Both Neilson and Hilton set new personal bests.

In the 400 meters, Natalie Stewart finished sixth in the premiere section event in 54.09. Nicole Rudd Bringhurst, who competed in another section of the 400 set a personal-best mark with a time of 55.54.

In the 100-meter dash Aubrey Hale led the sprinters with a 14th-place finish in 12.12 seconds. She was followed by teammates Arlene Gowar (12:20) and Katherine Jensen (12.57) who finished 16th and 21st, respectively.

Hansen also set a new personal best, placing fourth with a time of 1:00.77. Angela Shields (1:02.11) and Kaylee Packham (1:02.79) finished sixth and eighth.

Nicole Nielsen (17:14.35) and Sarah Darby (17:39.10) competed in the 5,000-meter race, placing fourth and ninth, respectively.

In the jumps, Melissa Keltner finished seventh in both the long and triple jump with marks of 4.93m and 11.73m, respectively.

In the throws, Deezbaa Whaley finished fifth in the discus and sixth in the hammer throw with throws of 42.62m and 54.75m, respectively.

Next weekend, the Cougars head back to California for the Mid Major Challenge at Hornet Stadium.
