PROVO, Utah -- A leadoff triple by sophomore Sydney Broderick ignited BYU out of the gate to a 10-0 win against Utah State in fall preseason play Friday night. The game scheduled for Saturday against College of Southern Idaho was rained out.

The Cougars put together a strong first inning, batting around with seven runs on six hits. Broderick scored on a wild pitch for the first run of the game.

McKenna Bull led the team from the pitcher's circle, holding the  Aggies to four hits and a walk, while striking out 15 in seven innings of work.

Aiding in the offensive strike in the first inning was Madison Merrell's single up the middle for two RBI and Coco Tauali'i's home run to right center for three RBI. Mercedes O'Connor also drove in a run on a single to right field.

In the fourth inning, BYU added two more runs as Lauren Bell scored on O'Connor's double to left center and Ashley Thompson drove in O'Connor on a single to left center.

The last run came on Megan Arnold's single up the middle to score Gordy Bravo.

The Cougars' fall schedule will resume Tuesday Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. MDT when they play Salt Lake Community College at Gail Miller Field. The slate continues at home with a game against Snow College Oct. 10 and games against Southern Utah and Utah Valley on Oct. 11.
