Batty named Academic All-District

­­­PROVO, Utah – BYU senior Miles Batty has been named to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 First Team for men’s track and field and cross country.

The Sandy, Utah, native carries a 3.93 GPA and is a double major in neuroscience and exercise science. Batty is now eligible for Academic All-America honors.

This marks the second-consecutive season in which Batty has earned honors from CoSIDA. Last season he was named all-district and the 2011 CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year for Men's Track & Field and Cross Country. Earlier this spring Batty was named a recipient of the 2012 Walter Byers Postgraduate Scholarship, an award that represents the top male and female scholar-athletes in the NCAA.

During the cross country season Batty helped BYU win the West Coast Conference and NCAA Mountain Region Championships by winning the individual title at each meet. He finished 14th at the NCAA National Championships to help BYU place fourth overall — the second-best team finish in program history.

Batty had a record-setting indoor track season as he set the collegiate mark for the indoor mile with a time of 3:54.54 at the Millrose Games. He was the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Champion in the 800 meters and anchored BYU’s distance medley relay (DMR) team that won the MPSF title. At nationals he earned two All-America honors with third-place finishes in the mile and as a member of the DMR team. Batty also picked up the Mountain Region Track Athlete of the Year award and was named an MPSF Scholar-Athlete.

The success of the cross country and indoor seasons has continued for Batty during the outdoor season as he qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 1,500 meters. During the regular season he posted the second-best 1,500 meter time in the NCAA by finishing in 3:37.50 at the Occidental High Performance Meet.
