NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recognized senior Miles Batty, junior Nachelle Mackie and men’s assistant coach Ed Eyestone as Mountain region award winners on Monday.

Batty earned his second consecutive Mountain Region Men’s Track Athlete of the Year award. The senior from Sandy, Utah, reset the collegiate record in the mile this indoor season with a time of 3:54.54 at the Millrose Games.

Batty also ran the anchor leg on Cougars’ top-ranked distance medley relay, which set the school record at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships in 9:29.00.

After redshirting the 2011 season, Mackie earned her first Mountain Region Women’s Track Athlete of the Year award for her performance in the 2012 indoor season. The junior from Spanish Fork, Utah, leads the nation in the 800 meters with a season-best and school record time of 2:03.56.

Like Batty, Mackie also competes on the BYU distance medley relay team. Mackie runs the 800m leg of the women’s DMR, which is currently ranked in the top-ten nationally.

In his tenth year as a track assistant coach with the Cougars, Eyestone earned Mountain Region Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year honors. This season, Eyestone has athletes ranked first in the mile, sixth in the 3000m, 14th in the 800m and coaches the top-ranked distance medley relay.

Eyestone has also helped the Cougars jump to eighth in the current national rankings.
