Twenty-eight Named to All-MWC team for Track
COLORADO SPRINGS -- Twenty-eight athletes from the BYU men and women’s track and field teams were named to the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field All-Conference teams.
Selections for the All-Conference teams are awarded to the top three finishers from each event.
“It’s always a great honor to have our athletes admitted to this team,” said BYU men’s track and field head coach Mark Robison. “To have 19 selected really shows the depth of our team. We had a very good competition and we’re excited now to prepare for regionals.”
Nineteen athletes from the BYU men’s team were named as selections while TCU had the second most athletes with nine.
For the women, BYU also received the most selections with nine athletes; New Mexico and TCU tied in second with seven.
“It’s a real honor for the team and for these individuals,” said BYU women’s track and field head coach Craig Poole. “These are excellent athletes who represented the team well and we appreciate their contribution as well as the conference for recognizing their efforts.”
At the conclusion of the MWC outdoor championships on Saturday, the conference announced BYU’s Poole and Robison as the MWC men’s and women’s Coaches of the Year. This was Robison’s sixth consecutive career award in seven years while Poole earned the honor after coaching the Cougars to their eighth conference crown.
Giving BYU another formal recognition, senior All-American Kyle Perry became the second consecutive Cougar to be awarded the MWC Men’s High Point award with 21.25 points. Perry landed first-place in both the 1,500-meter run and the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while also helping the Cougars land a fourth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay.
After the men captured their 12th straight outdoor title, the women took home their eighth MWC championship crown. The following individuals were the BYU selections made for the all-MWC teams
