LOGAN -- After two successful days at the Mt. Sac Relays, the BYU men’s track and field team put a solid ending to the weekend with strong performances at the Mark Faldmo Invitational at Utah State and the final day for the Mt. Sac Relays.

In the sprints, the Cougars received more regional qualification mark solidifying BYU’s performance for the weekend.

Starting with the 200-meter dash, junior All-American Kevin Biesinger placed second with a qualifying time of 21.51. He continued to improve his personal performance going into the 400-meter dash with a second qualifying time for the day and a first-place finish of 47.06. He was followed in third by freshman McKade Brady with a time of 48.73.

Moving into the middle distances, senior Robert Harrison made sure to put things away for the Cougars, landing a fourth-place finish in both the 800-meter and 1500-meter runs. In the 800-meter he finished in 1:56.57, followed by a final time of 3:55.06 for the 1500-meter run.

Sophomore Kevin Ahlstrom tallied another regional qualifying mark for BYU in the 400-meter hurdles. Ahlstrom’s second-place time of 52.06 barely beat out third-place Andrew Graham from Utah Valley by .90 of a second.

The field events pulled another regional qualifying mark from senior All-American pole vaulter Whitney Neves. Neves placed first clearing a height of 5.40m (17 feet 8.50 inches). He was followed by senior Brad Ellertson in second place with a best height of 4.88m (16 feet).

Wrapping things up in Logan, Kyle Mills and Konrad Rywelski landed second and third place in the triple jump. In second place Mills finished with a distance of 14.88m (47 feet 10 inches) while Rywelski followed closed in third with 14.19m (46 feet 6.75 inches).

Bringing the Mt. Sac Relays to a close, senior All-American Keith Jensen ran the only race for the Cougars going into day three. In the final 800-meter run, Jensen placed fourth with a time of 1:50.81.

“It was a loaded field with a lot of professionals and good athletes,” said Jensen. “It was really hot and windy, but I just got in and battled. It wasn’t a great race for me today, but it was okay.”

The Cougars return home to compete at the Clarence F. Robison Track for the BYU Robison Invitational beginning on Wednesday, April 22, 2009.
