4x400-meter school record broken as Texas Relays and Stanford Invitational concludes

PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s track and field completed a busy week of competition split up at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and Stanford Invitational as the 4x400-meter relay squad surpassed an eight-year school record in Texas.

The 4x400-meter squad of Trey Jackson, Eli Hazlett, Jace Jensen and Josh Taylor surged to a 3:03.19 time to finish second overall. The accomplishment now completes a sweep of both the BYU all-time indoor and outdoor 4x400-meter relay records as the exact same group shattered the indoor record earlier this year with a 3:05.73 finish at Texas Tech in February.

“Incredible race by those four guys today,” BYU sprints, hurdles and relays coach Kyle Grossarth said. “The Texas Relays always provide a great atmosphere to compete in, and the guys showed out and were rewarded with a new school record. Super excited for them and all of their teammates that contribute to that every day by coming and working hard.”

Caleb Witsken competed among a field of 13 top pole vaulters in the nation, including Texas Tech’s top-ranked Zach Bradford and Kyle Rademeyer of South Alabama. The accomplished senior and current No. 3 all-time BYU pole vaulter registered a clearance of 5.51m/18-1 to place sixth overall.

The 4x200-meter squad also took sixth with a 1:23.94 time in a race that included Georgia’s meet record time of 1:20.22. The group - Kyler Haughton, Easton Bianchi, Landon Maxfield and Spencer Carlile - finished just 0.56 seconds shy of the BYU record set in 2017 (1:23.38).

Stanford Invitational

Cobb Track and Angell Field | Stanford, California

Ryan Cibart was the lone Cougar to represent the men at Stanford Saturday, clocking an 800-meter time of 1:50.14 in his section to finish third overall. The race wrapped up a successful weekend at Stanford, including two new top-10 5,000-meter performances by Joey Nokes and Creed Thompson, and a first-place race in the 3,000-meter steeplechase by Kenneth Rooks.

The Cougars return to action at USC’s Trojan Invitational in Los Angeles, California April 7-8.
