Aburouss and Wayment compete at World Athletics Championships
EUGENE, Ore. — BYU men's sprinter Omar Aburouss and recently departed women's distance runner Courtney Wayment represented their respective nations at the 2022 World Athletics Championships at Hayward Field on July 15-16.
At 9:14.95, Wayment finished seventh overall in the women's steeplechase heats, 0.24 seconds ahead of 2016 Olympic Bronze medalist Emma Coburn.
Wayment advances to the women's steeplechase world championship race on Wednesday, July 20 at 7:45 p.m. PDT. Fans can tune-into Wayment's world title race with live coverage on USA Network.
The Layton, Utah native recently concluded her BYU career with an NCAA Women's Steeplechase National Championship at Hayward Field on June 11. Wayment's professional running career began on June 22 as she signed a contract with Swiss-founded On Running.
Aburouss, a native of Amman, Jordan, qualified to compete for the Jordanian national team in the men's 100-meter heats on Friday. The BYU sprinter clocked 11.24 to finish 16th overall and fourth out of seven in his heat. Aburouss came in ahead of Said Gilani of Afghanistan and the Cook Islands' Tikove Piira.
