Top-15 track and field teams set for triple meet weekend

PROVO, Utah — Both BYU men's and women's track and field programs jumped in the latest national rankings on Monday, to No. 13 and No. 10, respectively, as the teams prepare for competition at meets across the country this week.

Meet Information

John McDonnell Invitational

  • John McDonnell Field // Fayetteville, Arkansas
  • Friday, April 8

    • Friday events begin at 9:45 a.m. CDT
  • The Razorbacks' men's and women's teams are both ranked No. 5 in the latest USTFCCCA rankings. 
  • McDonnell Field will also play host to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary on May 25-28.
  • While the meet begins on Thursday, BYU athletes will not compete until Friday.

Sun Angel Classic

  • Sun Angel Stadium // Tempe, Arizona
  • Thursday-Saturday, April 8-9
  • Host: Arizona State

  • Schedule
    • Thursday includes only women's events and begins at 12 p.m. PDT. Friday's competition starts at 9 a.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m.
    • BYU athletes will only compete on Friday and Saturday.
  • The Sun Devils' men's team is ranked No. 11.

Aggie Invitational

  • Ralph Maughan Track Stadium // Logan, Utah
  • Friday-Saturday, April 8-9

Rankings and Recognition

BYU women's track and field vaulted 16 spots to No. 10 in the USTFCCCA's national rankings on Monday. The men hopped four spots to No. 13. 

Following the Stanford Invitational on April 1, the Cougars boast 14 athletes ranked in the top-25 nationally for results in their respective events. This places these athletes firmly on the path to qualify for the West Preliminary. 

Seven of the 14 hold top-10 results, including Courtney Wayment who boasts the nation's No. 2 time in the 1500m at 4:12.81. Dallin Vorkink and Casey Clinger are ranked No. 5 in the decathlon and 10,000m, respectively.
