BYU throwers shine at Weber State Twilight Invitational

OGDEN, Utah – Three BYU track and field throwers recorded all-time marks in their respective events at the Weber State Twilight Invitational in Ogden, Utah.

Sierra Freeland improved her position at No. 2 on the BYU Top 10 list in the women’s shot put with a toss of 15.93m/52-3.25. Gretchen Hoekstre moved up one spot on the program’s all-time board to No. 4 in the women’s shot put with a throw of 15.60m/51-2.25.

Sable Lohmeier El-Bakri strengthened her position at No. 9 on the school’s top 10 list with a career-best 56.03m/183-10 in the women’s hammer.

In her first career appearance in the event, multi-event athlete Halley Folsom Walker ran the 10th-fastest 400m hurdles in school. The All-American clocked a 58.96 to crack the BYU all-time list in the event.

The top three Cougar finishers in the women’s 100m dash all recorded personal records. Brinn Jensen was the top BYU athlete with an 11.93 while both My’Jah Mintze and Dolita Shaw both clocked 12.04. Luc Andrada ran a 10.69 in the men’s 100m, marking the fastest time of his college career.

Jake Grimsman was the top collegiate finisher in the men’s high jump with a clearance of 2.10m/6-10.75. In the women’s pole vault, Isabel Neal took first with a mark of 3.85m/12-11 and Charlotte read placed second with a clearance of 3.80m/12-5.5.

Austin Carter won the men’s shot put with a season-best 16.28m/53-5. Lohmeier El-Bakri and Hoekstre both doubled in the women’s discus, sweeping the top two spots. Lohmeier El-Bakri won the event with a distance of 51.43m/168-9 and Hoekstre took second with a mark of 48.70m/159-9.

The Cougars will compete later this week at the Oregon Twilight meet on Friday, May 7 and May 7-8 at the Ward Haylett Invitational.
