USATF names Williams to Olympic medical staff

INDIANAPOLIS – BYU’s track and field head athletic trainer, Dustin Williams, was named head athletic trainer on the USA Track & Field medical staff for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. 

Williams previously received this notable selection in 2016 when he was named the USATF head athletic trainer for the Rio Summer Olympics. This marks the seventh time since 2014 that Williams has been selected to be a head athletic trainer by USATF. He most recently was selected to be the head athletic trainer for USATF at the 2019 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Relays. 

This will be Williams’ fourth service on the Olympic Games staff. He also served as a member of the medical staff during the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing and the 2012 Olympic Games in London. 

After working on the USATF athletic training staff for the 2009 and 2011 Outdoor World Championships, Williams was selected to be the head athletic trainer at the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships. Since then, he has been the head athletic trainer at the 2015 IAAF World Outdoor Championships, 2017 World Outdoor Championships and 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships. 

During his time with BYU track and field, Williams worked on the team’s athletic training staff from 2006-11 before returning in 2018 as the head athletic trainer. 

Williams' connection with the Olympics extends beyond his career. His wife Jill was a two-time Olympian in the shot put. She now coaches at UVU and together they a five-year-old daughter, Miley. 

The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will take place July 24, 2020 through August 9, 2020.  The full announcement of the Olympic 2020 medical staff can be found here.
