Foutz earns big PR at Sun Angel Classic

TEMPE, Ariz. – Jacob Foutz headlined the first day of competition for No. 4/24 BYU track and field with a career record in the hammer throw at the Sun Angel Classic on Friday.

Foutz earned a mark of 63.30m/207-8 to take second place in the men’s hammer premiere heat. The senior’s toss beat his previous personal best of 61.19m/200-9 by over two meters. Sable Lohmeier had a toss of 47.92m/157-2 in the women’s hammer open.

Conner Kennedy broke the seven-meter mark in the men’s long jump for the first time in his career. Kennedy took second place with a jump of 7.16m/23-6. Janice Hall advanced to the women’s long jump final before finishing eighth overall with a mark of 5.37m/17-7.5.

In the women’s open 200m, Haley Rogers clocked a season-best 24.49 to place third. Ellie Heiden-Quackenbush (24.66), Brenna Porter (24.83) and Hannah Nealis (24.90) also ran times under 25 seconds.

Derek Sorensen raced in the men’s 200m premiere where he ran a 21.23 to take sixth overall. In the men’s open 200m, Michael Bluth finished sixth with a time of 21.69.

Four BYU decathletes wrapped up competition at the Jim Click Shootout on Friday in Tucson, Arizona. Ben Barton (6926 points) and Brian Matthews 6882 points) finished 5-6 while Dallin Vorkink (6619 points) and Caleb Witsken (6437 points) placed 9-10. Barton had meet-best performances in the 100m (11.02), high jump (2.00m/6-6.75) and 400m (48.91). Witsken tied for the best pole vault mark with a clearance of 4.60m/15-1.

The Cougars will finish up competition at the Sun Angel Classic tomorrow. The meet will continue to be streamed on FloTrack.org and live stats can be found on finishedresults.com. Official results from the Jim Click Shootout can also be found on finishedresults.com.
