SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Six BYU track and field athletes achieved marks at the San Diego Aztec Invitational that could potentially qualify them to compete at regionals on Saturday, bringing the total up to 13 with regional potential marks.

“I thought for the number of kids we brought down here, the meet went very well," BYU track and field coach Mark Robinson said. "Great weather, good competition. The kids had opportunities to perform on two different days. We had six qualify for regionals and we had half as many people perform as last week.”

Women pole-vaulters had a successful weekend with Anginae Monteverde placing third with a mark of 4.17 meters and Sierra Hansen placing fourth with a mark of 4.07 meters.

On the men’s side, Jefferson Jarvis marked a lifetime best in the discus with a mark of 52.68 meters and placing second overall. Stephen French tied his lifetime best in the pole vault with a mark of 4.75 and placed fourth overall.

Madison Pachner, with a mark of 51.35 in the discus throw, and Tatenda Tsumba, with a time of 21.41 in the 200 meters dash, both placed first in their individual events.

Other top performances included second-place finishes by Kassie Nagel with a season-best performance in the shot put, Diamond Thomas in the women's 200 meter dash, and Babatomiwa Adegoke in the men’s long jump.

“I thought the performances that people had went really well. If we can just keep going and do a little better each week, then we are going to be in great shape,” said Robinson.

Next week the team will split up to perform at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas and in the Stanford Invitaional in Stanford, California.
