Eyestone selected as coach for U.S. Junior Men's Team

PROVO, Utah – BYU track and field coach Ed Eyestone will lead the United States Junior Men’s Cross Country team at the 41st IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Guiyang, China, March 28.

“As an athlete it was always a great honor to represent my country in international competition,” Eyestone said. “Now as a coach it is equally fulfilling and an awesome responsibility. I look forward to helping the U.S. Junior team maximize their potential on Saturday here in China. They are the ones that will be doing all the work.”

USA Track and Field (USATF) selected Eyestone to be a coach for the U.S. Junior Men’s team in December 2014, given his background as both an athlete and coach.

Eyestone ran for BYU from 1982-1985, was a 10-time All-American, and went on to be a two-time Olympian. Since Eyestone returned to his alma mater as a coach in 2000, BYU has produced 34 All-Americans and won 10 cross country conference championships.

At the last IAAF World Cross Country Championships in 2013, the U.S. Junior Men’s team placed fourth overall. More than 400 runners from 51 countries will participate in the race Saturday.
