BYU track and field preps for meets in Seattle, New Mexico

PROVO, Utah  BYU track and field athletes head to the Husky Classic in Seattle and the Don Kirby Elite Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico this weekend for their final meets before indoor championships.

The Cougars will return to venues they competed in earlier this year as they attempt to qualify athletes for the MPSF and NCAA Indoor Championships.

The Husky Classic will begin Friday at 4 p.m. PST and can be followed live at gohuskies.com. The Don Kirby Elite Invitational will begin Friday at 4 p.m. MST and can be followed live at golobos.com.

Athletes to watch

Shaquille Walker boasts an undefeated record in 2015, having won races in the 500 meters, 600 meters and 800 meters this season. Walker officially claims the second-fastest 600-meter time (1:17.32) and third-fastest 800-meter time (1:47.44) in the nation this indoor season.

Jason Witt owns the fourth-best time in the 5000 meters this indoor season, a 13:42.08 in Seattle.

Shea Martinez, Madelyn Brooks and Kelsey Brown lead BYU women in the 800 meters this season, each having run the race under 2:11 this indoor season. Martinez posted a 2:06.50 at the UW Invitational, good for 19th in the nation.

Anginae Monteverde comes into this weekend having posted the 21st best mark (4.15 meters) in the pole vault at the Armory Track Invitational earlier this season.
