Ryan Waite has been announced as BYU’s new director of operations for the men’s and women’s track and field and cross country programs.

As director of operations, Waite will serve as the recruiting coordinator, meet director for home events, team event coordinator and social media manager for the track and field and cross country teams.

Since June of 2013, Waite has been working with the track and field program as a student assistant. He helped coach the distance runners and worked as an office manager in the track and field office until receiving his new position last week.

"We're excited to have the opportunity to continue working with Ryan as our director of operations,” head track coach Ed Eyestone said. “He was an All-American for us and this last year served a vital role in transitioning our men's and women's teams into one united program. I know he'll do an excellent job."

Waite competed at BYU from 2010-13. As an athlete, Waite was a five-time All-American and a three-time conference champion. He holds school records in the 800 meter run distance medley relay and also has the second fastest outdoor 800 meter time in school history. As a student assistant during the 2013-14 season, he helped coach the men’s cross country team that won the West Coast Conference Championship and placed fourth overall at the NCAA championships.

“I’m thrilled to be able to work with the track and field and cross country programs here at BYU,” Waite said. “I loved my time here as an athlete and I hope to be able to help the current and future student athletes have a similar experience.”

Waite recently received his bachelor’s degree in Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations from BYU.
