Dickson to Represent Team U.S.A.
DES MOINES, Iowa – Freshman Marcus Dickson qualified for the 2013 Pan American Junior Championships Friday at the 2013 U.S.A. Championships held in Des Moines, Iowa, at Drake University. Dickson took second in the junior men’s 800-meter run with a time of 1:49.63. This is the second year in a row that BYU will have an 800-meter runner represent the U.S. junior team, as Shaquille Walker ran at the World Championships last year in Barcelona, Spain.
Also in the race with Dickson was fellow freshman David Graham. Graham finished sixth overall with a time of 1:51.67.
The Cougars also found success in the field events on Friday. Freshman John Glazier placed third in junior men’s long jump, earning the bronze medal with a jump of 22 feet, 11.25 inches. Senior All-American Victor Weirich earned seventh place in the senior men’s pole vault, clearing 17 feet 10.5 inches.
On the women’s side, freshman Rachel Stewart advanced to Saturday’s junior women’s 1500-meter final, as she ran 4:36.86 to place second in her heat. Stewart competes Saturday at 2:02 p.m. CT.
