Higham ties for 30th, BYU finishes 11th
FAIRFAX, Calif. — Shooting even par in Tuesday's last round at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, senior Tommy Higham helped the BYU men's golf team to an 11th place finish while finishing tied for 30th place individually.
"We are showing signs of improvement," Cougar head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "This is the first time this year that all four scores were at par or better. We are playing solid golf, but we still need to better our short game."
Higham shot an even par 71 in Round 1, a three-under-par 68 in Round 2 and again shot even par (71) in Round 3. Higham's 30th place finish is his best of the year.
The Cougars shot a five-under-par (279) team score in Round 3 allowing them to finish at five-under-par for the tournament. All four scored players shot par or better through the last 18 holes.
Sophomore CJ Lee shot three-under-par for the day alone, birding five holes. At two-under-par through 54 holes of play, Lee finished the event in 35th place. Teammate Patrick Fishburn shot even par through today's 18 holes of play. Fishburn ended the tournament tied for 38th place at one-under-par. Freshman Austen Christiansen shot a two-under-par 69 today. He concluded the invitational tied for 57th place, while Dalton Stanger finished tied for 77th at 14-over-par.
Host University of California-Berkeley held its first place position shooting 12-under-par on the day and finished at -42 overall. Fellow West Coast Conference school, Pepperdine, concluded the event tied for second place (-33). San Francisco shot four-over-par on the day moving them from 6th to 8th place, while San Diego shot four-under-par for a 15th place finish.
In two weeks BYU will travel to participate in the Pacific Invitational Oct. 29-31 in Stockton, California.
