Tyler Haws finished with a career-high 42 points to lead all players — his second career 30-point game and first 40-point game. The 42 points also place Haws tied for 8th in the BYU record books for points in a single game.

Haws went 6 for 8 from behind the arc today for a career high in made 3-pointers. The 6 3-pointers made in a single game place Haws tied for 9th in the BYU record books.

Today’s dunks came from Brandon Davies at the 13:20 mark of the first half and Josh Sharp at the 6:10 mark of the second half.
BYU’s 25-point lead at the half against Virginia Tech ties the largest halftime lead for this season set against Northern Arizona and was also BYU’s largest lead of the first half.

"I thought that we did a good job of getting shots. We got the ball into Brandon (Davies), that brought the double team, and we knew that if we could get the ball out and make one more pass, one more pass, we could get some good looks."

"Defensively, we got a few good stops early and we got on a little run which was key for us. We have gotten off to some really good starts this year and then kind of faded a little bit and I thought we were pretty consistent the whole game. Our intensity level was good. Except for some missed rebounds and assignments, I thought the first half was as good as we've played."

On scoring 42:

"I was able to get into a rhythm. I think they were doubling B (Brandon Davies) and so I got a few open shots, which is pretty unusual. I found my rythm and I was able to knock my shots down tonight. It's fun when you can get into a rhythm. It was a great win for our team going into league play."

On opposing teams making adjustments in the second half:

"I think you just have to stay aggressive and take what the defense gives you. I was trying to get some other guys involved, and B (Davies) had a strong start in the second half. All of our guys played well, and this is a good team win."

On breaking his father's (Marty Haws) single-game high of 40 points:

"I'm going to give him a hard time, someone told me that and that's a cool thing."

On Tyler Haws:

"He was special, he was special. He’s a really good player, I mean, he’s a really good player. He can score in a lot of different ways. He's savvy, he’s crafty, he’s smart; he’s probably one of the best guards we’ll play against all year long. He had a really good day and he came out right from the start."

On trying to slow Haws in the second half:
"Well we tried to go no look, no touch on him and try to get away from our help principles a little bit and try and not let him touch the ball as much. That’s kind of uncharacteristic of what we do but we tried to slow him down a little bit. It kept him from getting 60 tonight."

On playing in Salt Lake City:
"It was good, we’ve played in hostile environments before. They had a great crowd and they were ready to play. You’ve got to give them credit. They played really well, all their guys, they’ve got a really good team. They have good guards, an NBA guard, an NBA post player and then they’ve got good depth coming off the bench. Coach Rose does a great job with them and they were prepared and ready to go."

Takeaways from the game heading into ACC play:
"We’ve got to have more guys playing and playing well on the same night. We don’t have the luxury of having a couple of guys like Davies and Haws that can carry us. We’ve got to have more guys, multiple guys playing well on the same night."
