Exhibition vs. Dixie State on Friday

PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball will play its final tuneup for the 2011-12 season when the Cougars face in-state foe Dixie State on Friday at 7 p.m. MT in the Marriott Center. The game will be broadcast live on BYUtv and BYUtv.org.

In the team’s first exhibition, BYU defeated Division II power Midwestern State 91-74. Junior Stephen Rogers led four players in double-figures with 16 points while Noah Hartsock added 15, Charles Abouo 14 and Brandon Davies 10. Davies led the team with nine rebounds and Hartsock and Abouo grabbed eight boards apiece.

Last season Dixie State finished 22-7, tied for the PacWest regular season title and advanced to the West Region Championship game of the NCAA Division II National Tournament. The Red Storm’s leading returning scorer is Griffon Jones, who averaged 10.2 points and a team-high 5.2 rebounds in 2010-11.

Dixie fell to Westminster College 84-82 in an exhibition on Tuesday. Forwards Dalton Groskreutz and Jones scored 16 points apiece to lead the Red Storm.
