Marriott Center Floor

A joint effort between Special Events and the BYU Paint Shop to re-paint and re-finish the Marriott Center floor was completed today.

The BYU logos and all paint in the keys were removed before camps began in June. The project resumed on July 1 when the entire floor was sanded. The floor was then painted and the words ‘Brigham Young’ were placed on each baseline. Each ‘Brigham Young’ was one large decal.

Before the two layers of finish were applied today, a six-piece vinyl decal Y logo was placed at center court — a new addition to the Marriott Center floor.

Other new features include a West Coast Conference logo inside the 3-point line on each end of the court, the subtraction of one line and the addition of another.

There is now one 3-point line as both the men and the women will shoot from 20 feet 9 inches beginning this fall. The men began shooting from that distance in 2007 while the women’s three-point line had been 19 feet 9 inches.

The line addition is the semi-circle under each basket.  Defensive players will not be able to draw a charge if they have at least one foot in the restricted area marked by the semi-circle.
