PROVO, Utah -- For the sixth-straight year, BYU men’s basketball has received public recognition from the NCAA for earning an Academic Progress Rate (APR) score in the top 10 percent of all NCAA Division I men’s basketball programs.

“We have high expectations for our players to be successful as basketball players and as students,” BYU head coach Dave Rose said. “This honor is a compliment to the hard work put in by our student-athletes and our academic support staff led by E.J. Caffaro.”

The NCAA’s APR calculation includes eligibility, retention and graduation to provide a clear picture of the academic culture of each sport.

The Cougars are just one of 10 men’s basketball programs to receive recognition for its APR scores for six-straight seasons and the only school to reach the NCAA Tournament and receive public recognition in each of the last five seasons.

BYU is one of only 18 programs that received recognition from the NCAA and earned a bid to the 2011 NCAA Tournament. Utah is the only other men’s basketball team in the Mountain West Conference to earn recognition.

Along with its academic success, BYU men’s basketball finished with a program record 32 victories, earned a share of the MWC regular season title and advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament. This season marked BYU’s fifth-straight season with 25-plus victories and fifth-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The following is a list of the 10 NCAA Division I men’s basketball programs to receive public recognition from the NCAA for a top 10 percent APR score for the last six seasons.
