Rice Named Head Coach at UNLV
LAS VEGAS -- Dave Rice has been named the head men’s basketball coach at UNLV. Rice had been a member of Dave Rose’s staff at BYU the past six seasons, including the past three as associate head coach.
“I’m very excited for Dave and his family,” Rose said. “UNLV has hired a great coach. Dave is very deserving of this opportunity and he’ll do a terrific job. He has been a huge part of our success over the last six seasons. He has a great mind for the game of basketball. I’m grateful for all he’s done for BYU and our program. We will miss Dave and Mindy and we wish them the very best at UNLV.”
Rice joined the staff at BYU as an assistant when Dave Rose was named the head coach in 2005. In 2008, he was named associate head coach. During his tenure in Provo, Rice coordinated BYU’s offense and the recruiting efforts. Several players Rice helped recruit earned all-conference honors in their first season at BYU and the Cougars consistently ranked among the top offensive teams in the nation.
