Fredette Earns Eighth MWC Player of the Week Honor

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – BYU senior guard Jimmer Fredette and UNLV senior guard Tre’Von Willis have been named the Mountain West Conference Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week for games through February 27. This is the 15th career weekly accolade for Fredette and fourth for Willis.

Fredette averaged 29.5 points, 5.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals while helping the Cougars take sole possession of first place in the MWC standings with victories over Colorado State and No. 4 San Diego State last week. In an 84-76 win against the Rams, the Glens Falls, N.Y., product converted 14-of-16 free throws en route to a 34-point performance. He also had five rebounds, two assists and two steals in the contest. Fredette followed that outing with 25 points, nine assists, three rebounds and two steals in an 80-67 victory at No. 4 San Diego State.

Willis averaged 20.0 points, 3.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals last week while aiding the Runnin’ Rebels in wins over New Mexico and Air Force. The senior guard opened the week by going 9-of-13 from the field, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range, and 2-of-2 at the free throw line while scoring 25 points in a 77-74 overtime victory at New Mexico. He also contributed four assists and four steals. Willis followed that performance with 15 points, six rebounds and three assists in a 90-77 win over Wyoming. In that contest, the Fresno, Calif., native went 5-of-8 from the field, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range, and converted 2-of-4 free throws. For the week, Willis was 14-of-21 (.667) from the field, including 8-of-11 (.727) from 3-point range, and 4-of-6 (.667) from the charity stripe.
