Emery Earns Player of the Week Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – BYU senior guard Jackson Emery and San Diego State senior guard D.J. Gay have been named the Mountain West Conference Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week for games through February 13. This is the first career weekly accolade for both Emery and Gay.

Emery averaged 17.0 points, 5.0 assists, 4.0 steals and 2.5 rebounds last week while helping the Cougars to wins over Air Force and Utah. In a 90-52 victory at Air Force, the senior guard went 5-of-11 from 3-point range as part of a 17-point outing, adding five assists, two steals and on e rebound. The Alpine, Utah, native followed that performance with 17 points, four rebounds, five assists, and six steals in the Cougars’ 72-59 win over Utah. Emery went 6-of-12 from the field in both contests, adding a 5-of-5 effort from the free throw line against the Utes. He committed just two turnovers for the week while averaging 34 minutes of action.

Gay averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 assists, 3.0 steals and 2.0 rebounds as the Aztecs posted wins over Uta h and UNLV. The Sun Valley, Calif., product scored 15 points to go with six assists, five steals and a rebound in an 85-53 victory against Utah. He followed that performance with 20 points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal in SDSU’s 63-57 win at UNLV. For the week, Gay shot 40.7 percent from the field (11-of-27) and 92.3 percent (12-of-13) from the free throw line while going without a turnover in 73 minutes of action.
