PROVO -- BYU men’s basketball earned team of the year recognition and several individual honors at the annual Y Awards on Wednesday.

The Cougars finished the season with a program-best 30-6 record while advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1993. Four different Cougars earned All-MWC recognition along the way while head coach Dave Rose improved his career record to 127-40 — the best winning percentage in program history at .760.

Junior guard Jimmer Fredette received three honors on the night, including Male Athlete of the Year, Male Crowd Pleaser and Performance of the Year. The Glens Falls native averaged 22.1 points and 4.7 assists while scoring 30-plus points eight times. He earned four All-America honors to go with district player of the year and first-team all-MWC recognition. His record-setting 49-point, nine-assist, nine-three and seven-rebound display against Arizona earned him performance of the year.

Freshman guard Tyler Haws was named the Male Rookie of the Year after averaging 11.3 points and 4.2 rebounds and being named to the All-MWC Third Team. Haws set several free throw shooting records, including an MWC record for percentage in a season (.917) and a BYU record for consecutive attempts without a miss (48).

Senior guard Lamont Morgan, Jr., took home the Dale R. McCann Spirit of Sport Award, given to the senior male athlete whose participation best exemplifies the true spirit of sport in athletics and in life. Morgan was a team captain for the nationally-ranked Cougars and was a true competitor who pushed himself and his teammates to improve in every practice. He shot .633 from the field and .692 from three this season.
