Cougars Ranked No. 12 in AP and No. 10 in ESPN/USA Today Polls
PROVO -- For the third-straight week since entering the rankings, BYU men’s basketball has climbed in the AP and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Polls. The Cougars are now No. 12 in the AP Poll and have cracked the top-10 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll at No. 10.
Last week BYU defeated Wyoming at home 81-66 before scoring a 71-69 win at San Diego State to extend its winning streak to 15 and improve to 20-1 overall. The Cougars lead the nation in wins and have the second-longest active winning streak.
In 1987-88, BYU climbed to No. 2 in the UPI Coaches Poll and No. 3 in the AP after a 17-0 start. The Cougars finished the season No. 19 in the AP and No. 17 in the UPI that season. At 20-1, the 2009-10 squad has tied the 1987-88 team for the best record through 21 games in program history.
BYU plays at New Mexico on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 8 p.m. in the Pit. The Cougars return home to host Utah in the Deseret First Duel on Jan. 30, at 7 p.m. in the Marriott Center. Listen to both games live on KSL Newsradio 102.7 FM and 1160 AM or KSL.com. Both games will be televised live on The Mtn.
