Barcello Named WCC Player of the Week
SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference has named BYU senior guard Alex Barcello its Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Barcello helped the Cougars improve to 4-0 for the first time since 2016-17 with wins over No. 12 Oregon and Central Methodist. He averaged 20.5 points, shooting 71.4 percent from the field, 61.5 percent from 3-point range and 100 percent from the free throw line. He also dished out five assists with two rebounds and a steal.
Against the Ducks in the Phil Knight Invitational at the Moda Center in Portland, Ore., Barcello put on a show for the nationally televised audience, scoring a season-high 25 points, going 9-of-11 from the field, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range. He also made all three free throws, to extend his streak to 38 straight, the third-longest in program history.
He reached double figures for the seventh straight game on Saturday with 16 points in 21 minutes in BYU’s 97-61 victory over Central Methodist. He was 6-of-10 from the field and 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, marking his seventh straight contest with multiple makes from downtown.
