Cougars celebrate 2017-18 season at annual banquet

PROVO, Utah – BYU men’s basketball looked back at the 2017-18 season at its annual banquet Tuesday night at the Provo Marriott Hotel & Conference Center.

The Cougars finished 24-11 overall in 2017-18 and received a bid to the National Invitational Tournament. In the West Coast Conference Championships, BYU defeated No. 22/20 Saint Mary’s in the semifinals to advance to the championship game.

With 24 wins and the NIT bid in 2017-18, the Cougars have now won 20-plus games and advanced to the postseason (NCAA or NIT) in all 13 seasons under coach Dave Rose.

Individual highlights during 2017-18 included junior Elijah Bryant and sophomore Yoeli Childs earning All-WCC First Team honors. Both players also earned NABC All-District honors while Childs also earned USBWA All-District honors. Sophomore guard TJ Haws also earned All-WCC Honorable Mention.

Voice of the Cougars Greg Wrubell served as master of ceremonies and listed the highlights, awards and milestones achieved by the team in 2017-18.

Best Conditioned Post Player: Dalton Nixon
Outstanding Defensive Player: Jahshire Hardnett
Playmaker Award: TJ Haws
Inspirational Teammate Award: Payton Dastrup
Coaches Award: Rylan Bergersen
Competitive Spirit Award: Luke Worthington
Most Outstanding Player: Elijah Bryant and Yoeli Childs
Team Captains: Elijah Bryant and Luke Worthington
