BYU's basketball teams showcase skills at Boom Shakalaka
PROVO, Utah – The BYU men’s and women’s basketball teams held the annual Boom Shakalaka event in the Marriott Center Friday night, showcasing the two teams in five-minute scrimmages.
The men’s team split its squad into three teams and held three different scrimmages. The Cougar team made up of Nick Emery, Eric Mika, Colby Leifson, Kyle Davis and Davin Guinn won two of the three contests by scores of 18-11 and 15-9. TJ Haws’ 12 points on the night led all players, followed by Emery’s 11.
On the women’s side, Cassie Broadhead led all scorers with six points to lead the blue team past the white squad. Kalani Purcell had six rebounds, four points and two assists.
Fans stuck around after the scrimmages to watch the Cougarettes and the dunk team perform. Following the showcase, the men’s and women’s teams signed autographs on the court.
The Cougar Tipoff for the men’s team will be next Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. MDT. It will be free to the public. The women’s first exhibition game is on Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. MDT.
