Boom Shakalaka student 3-on-3 tournament

PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball will host Boom Shakalaka: The BYU Basketball Showcase on Friday, Oct. 23, in the Marriott Center. This year, BYU students will have the chance to compete in a 3-on-3 tournament on the Marriott Center floor before the event at 6 p.m. MT.

How to Enter

  • BYU athletics will select one team from each of the following social media platforms for a total of four teams: Facebook.com/BYUbasketball, Twitter @BYUbasketball, Instagram @BYUcougars and Snapchat BYUathletics.

Rules and Format

  • All team members must be BYU students
  • Each team may have up to four players and must include at least one male and one female
  • Each team must have at least one male and one female on the court at all times
  • Games will be 10 minutes in length, running clock except for the last minute of the game
  • Score will be kept by 1s and 2s
  • The ball must be cleared beyond the 3-point line on every change of possession
  • Referees and scorekeepers will be provided
  • Team members must wear the Boom Shakalaka shirt provided (black, white, navy blue or royal blue)
  • Each team will play one semifinal game with the winning teams advancing to the championship

Prizes

  • The championship team members will receive Boom Shakalaka trophies and BYU swag

Boom Shakalaka will begin at 7 p.m. MT and will be televised on BYUtv. This year’s event will feature a skills challenge, a 3-point shootout, a dunk contest and a 5-on-5 tournament with members of the men’s team. The Marriott Center doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free.
