Collinsworth, Haws and Winder receive WCC honors
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference announced its 2014-15 men’s basketball awards today and BYU guards Tyler Haws and Kyle Collinsworth have been named to the All-WCC First Team while fellow guard Anson Winder was an honorable mention selection. Conference honors are based on league games only.
"Tyler's career will be defined by his consistency," Rose said. "What we will always appreciate is Ty's ability to bring his best each night against defenses aimed to stop him. Our program will always be grateful to him for his commitment, dedication and leadership."
For the third-straight season, Haws has been named to the first team and is the league’s leading scorer at 21.7 points per game. He is the first player in WCC history to lead the league in scoring in conference games only in three-consecutive seasons. An Alpine, Utah, native, Haws was also first in the league in free throws made (112), fourth in free throw percentage (86.8), ninth in minutes played and (32.1) tied for 13th in steals (1.2).
"Kyle has had an extraordinary year," Rose said. "He has helped our team in so many ways. Kyle battled through a serious injury at the end of last year and came back stronger than he was before. We are grateful for Kyle's leadership and his ability to help our team achieve success."
Collinsworth is a repeat first-team honoree after averaging 13.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.6 steals during WCC action. The junior from Provo, Utah, was the league leader in rebounds and assists while finishing fifth in steals and 10th in scoring. Collinsworth also finished first in defensive rebounds (6.6), second in assist/turnover ratio (2.7) and 14th in field goal percentage (49.1).
"Anson has played a variety of roles for our program," Rose said. "We are so happy for this recognition of his hard work and proud of Anson for this accomplishment."
Winder, a senior from Las Vegas, is a first-time honoree. He finished 16th in the conference in scoring (12.4), third in steals (1.6) and 13th in 3-point field goals per game (1.4). He scored in double figures nine times during conference play and had 20-plus points twice. Winder posted five assists twice and totaled a season-high five steals at Portland.
