PROVO, Utah – Brigham Young University today announced plans to renovate the remaining lower bowl of the Marriott Center and install the same prime chair seats currently found on the north side of the arena. In addition, the Marriott Center scoreboard and video walls will be replaced with state-of-the-art LED video boards that will enhance the many events held each year in the Marriott Center. Construction on both projects is anticipated to begin around May 1, with completion projected by late summer.

“We look forward to these exciting upgrades to the Marriott Center,” said Larry Duffin, Special Events director. “In addition to popular BYU athletic events, this arena hosts about twice as many events tied to academics, performing arts and religious and community gatherings. It’s truly a multi-use facility. The new LED boards and improved seating throughout the lower bowl are part of BYU’s ongoing efforts to ensure that the Marriott Center remains a vital part of campus for years to come.”

When the renovation is completed the facility will hold 19,000, a decrease of approximately 1,900 seats from the current capacity of 20,900. The renovated lower bowl will offer approximately 8,000 prime chair seats that are padded, wider and provide more legroom than the original seats. The reconfiguration of rows and seats will necessitate reseating all basketball season-ticket holders. The student section will remain on the west side of the arena.

“Since its introduction in 2012, we’ve had great success with the online seating process that allows our fans to select their own seats in a real-time 3D environment,” said BYU ticket manager Clark Livsey. “Using this seat-selection system, fans can preview seat availability, see a simulated view from each seat and purchase their seats online.”

During the process of reseating, fans will be assigned a time to enter the online system and select seats based upon priority points that include Cougar Club membership. The BYU Ticket Office staff will be available to help season-ticket holders through the process.

As a result of the reconfigured seating options, ticket prices for men’s basketball have been revised for the 2015-16 season. The new pricing structure offers a variety of options to suit the needs of BYU fans.

The four new LED video boards are approximately 24-feet wide by 18-feet high and face north, south, east and west. There are two additional underbelly boards on the north and south sides that are visible from the press area and the lower rows. These smaller boards are roughly 13-feet wide by 7.5-feet high.
