Sophomore guard Tyler Haws led the Cougars in scoring at 21.7 points per game and in doing so climbed several statistical charts and set several records. See the bullet points below:

  • Haws’s 780 points are a BYU sophomore record and fourth all-time for points scored in a single season
  • Haws’s scoring average of 21.7 points per game is a BYU sophomore record and 10th all-time for a single-season scoring average
  • Finished seventh in the nation in scoring, joining Danny Ainge (7th in 1980-81), Devin Durrant (3rd in 1983-84), Jimmer Fredette (7th in 2009-10 and 1st in 2010-11) and Michael Smith (8th in 1988-89) as the only Cougars to finish a season ranked among the nation’s top 10 in scoring. Haws is the only sophomore in program history to finish a season ranked among the top 10
  • Joined Danny Ainge as the only BYU players to reach 1,000 career points during their sophomore seasons
  • With 1,177 career points Haws set the BYU record for most career points through a sophomore season
  • Had 25 games with 20 or more points in 2012-13, ranked fourth all-time for a single season and the most by a BYU sophomore
  • Has 29 career 20 point games, good for 12th all-time and the most through a sophomore season
  • Joined eight other BYU players, including his father Marty Haws, as the only Cougars in program history to record a 40-point game when he scored 42 against Virginia Tech
  • Haws’s 42 points against Virginia Tech are tied for eighth all-time in a single game at BYU and are the most by a sophomore and the most by a player not named Jimmer Fredette since Bob Skousen scored 47 against UCLA on Dec. 2, 1961 in the Smith Fieldhouse
  • Is shooting .891 from the free throw line for his career, first all-time at BYU (with five more makes Haws will be eligible to be ranked on the NCAA’s all-time career free throw percentage list, where he would currently be ranked 15th)
  • Shot .877 from the free throw line in 2012-13, the sixth-best single-season percentage in program history
  • BYU’s all-time leader in career NIT points (111) and NIT scoring average (27.8)
  • Holds BYU’s single-game NIT scoring record with 37 points vs. Washington, also tied for the most points by a Cougar in a postseason game
