BYU, Wisconsin agree to home-and-home football series
PROVO, Utah (Oct. 11, 2012) — Brigham Young University and the University of Wisconsin today announced the schools have agreed to a home-and-home football series for the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
The Cougars and Badgers will meet at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah, in 2017 with the second game being played at historic Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wis., the following season.
“We are exited to announce this series with the Badgers,” said BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe. “We’re always looking for opportunities to schedule storied football programs like Wisconsin. It will be a great experience for our coaches, players and fans to visit Big Ten country and have Wisconsin play at LaVell Edwards Stadium.”
The two-game series creates three future matchups currently scheduled between the Cougars and Badgers. The two schools are already slated to face each other in Madison in November 2013.
BYU and Wisconsin have previously met just once in football. Led by All-American quarterback Jim McMahon and future Hall of Fame coach LaVell Edwards, BYU earned a 28-3 victory on Sept. 20, 1980 at Camp Randall Stadium.
“I was on the 1980 BYU team that last went to Camp Randall Stadium,” said Holmoe. “It is truly one of the great experiences in college football. We look forward to this game and the ongoing relationship.”
Wisconsin and BYU have been two of the most successful programs in recent history. Since 2006 the Cougars are 64-19 under Bronco Mendenhall, while the Badgers are 64-21 under head coach Bret Bielema. BYU’s winning percentage over that span is 10th-best in the country while Wisconsin’s is 11th. UW has been to a bowl game for 10-straight seasons while BYU’s current streak is seven.
