PROVO, Utah -- The BYU football team continued to work hard in spring practice as both offense and defense continued to compete and make plays.

At the conclusion of multiple position drills and workouts, players on both sides of the ball assembled for some 11-on-11 scrimmage work. Giving the running backs plenty of work, the offense was able to move the football and see several highlights from its playmakers.

Senior JJ Di Luigi got the offense close to the goal line with a 14-yard carry. Sophomore Joshua Quezada was able to pick up the one-yard touchdown on the next play. Quezada had 10 carries for 49 yards and a touchdown to go along with one catch for eight yards.

After some passing drills and defensive work, the offense and defense continued with some more 11-on-11. Sophomore Jake Heaps led the offense down the field on a scoring drive. Heaps connected with redshirt freshman Ross Apo for a 16-yard gain and then found Di Luigi for another 11 yards. The longest run of the day came on a 22-yard touchdown run by senior Bryan Kariya for the score.

The defense was able to make plays as well with sophomore Jray Galea'i knocking down a pass in the end zone to stop another scoring threat and seniors Jameson Frazier and Matt Putnam combining for a sack.

Heaps finished practice completing 4-of-7 passes for 49 yards. Junior Riley Nelson finished 2-of-3 for 16 yards while junior James Lark completed 2-of-5 passes for 26 yards. Sophomore Devin Mahina highlighted the tight ends, catching three passes for 38 yards.
