PROVO, Utah — For the second time during the 2021 season, BYU running back Tyler Allgeier has been named the Independent Offensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness

Allgeier carried the ball a career high 32 times for 191 yards and two touchdowns to lead BYU to a 21-19 win at Washington State on Saturday, Oct. 23 in Martin Stadium.

The sophomore running back was previously recognized as the CSM Independent Offensive Player of the Week following a 218-yard, three-touchdown performance in BYU’s 34-20 victory over Utah State in week five of the season. Allgeier follows BYU quarterback Jaren Hall as back-to-back winners of the CSM award.

Through eight games in 2021, Allgeier has 168 carries for 861 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. He is ranked No. 6 nationally in rushing touchdowns, 7th in rushing yards and 15th in yards per game (111.7).

On his fourth attempt of the game at WSU, Allgeier passed 2,000 career rushing yards on carry 316, moving him ahead of Doak Walker Award winner Luke Staley (349) for the fewest amount of carries to reach the 2,000-yard milestone in BYU history.

Allgeier is now 11th on the BYU all-time career rushing list with 2,159 yards. He is in a three-way tie for 9th in career rushing TDs (24) with Pete Van Valkenburg and Ronney Jenkins.

He is on the 2021 watch list for the Maxwell Award, Doak Walker Award, Paul Hornung Award and the CFPA National Performer of the Year. In 2020, Allgeier finished No. 8 nationally with 1,130 rushing yards and was No. 4 in yards per carry at 7.53 for the No. 10 ranked Cougars.

College Sports Madness is part of the USA Today Sports Media Group. Each week during the college football season, CSM names an offensive and defensive player of the week for each FBS conference as well as a selection from among the independent teams.
