PROVO, Utah – Jonah Trinnaman put up impressive numbers for NFL scouts as 14 former Cougars including star linebacker Fred Warner participated in BYU’s Pro Day on Friday at the Indoor Practice Facility.

The participants met with NFL team representatives, performed various combine tests and displayed position-specific skills throughout the day in front of 31 scouts from 27 NFL teams. Current BYU players and coaches also attended along with athletes' families, friends and media.

Warner, who already participated in the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine, participated only in the position drill portion of the Pro Day. He was joined at Pro Day by former Cougar defensive backs Micah Hannemann, Kamel Greene and Hiva Lee and defensive linemen Handsome Tanielu and Kesni Tausinga. Former offensive players included wide receiver Trinnaman, tight end Tanner Balderree, and offensive linemen Tejan Koroma and Tuni Kanuch. Punter Jonny Linehan was the lone special teams athlete to participate. In addition to BYU’s 2017 graduating seniors, former BYU defensive linemen Travis Tuiloma, Logan Taele and Tomasi Laulile also worked out at the Pro Day.

The group began the day with official measurements and went on to the vertical and broad jumps before transitioning to the bench press. The workouts then moved to the 40-yard dash, 3-cone drill, and short and long shuttles before finishing with position drills.

Each scout was responsible for keeping their own numbers so all results reported are unofficial.

Trinnaman topped all other participants in the vertical with a 40.5-inch leap. Balderree and Hannemann recorded the next highest marks with jumps of 37.5 inches and 35 inches, respectively. Kanuch had the highest jump out of all the linemen with a 32-inch jump while Koroma and Taele finished with the next best height of 30.5 inches.

Trinnaman, Balderree and Hannemann continued to standout with the top-three broad jumps. Trinnaman jumped an impressive distance of 12 feet (144 inches) which would have been the overall top mark at this year’s NFL Scouting Combine. Balderree recorded a jump of 10 feet 5 inches (125 inches) and Hannemann jumped for 10 feet 3 inches (123 inches). Koroma led all linemen with a mark of 9 feet 6 inches (108 inches).

In the bench press, linemen Koroma and Tausinga highlighted the workout with 32 and 31 reps, respectively. Balderree and Hannemann impressed with the highest amount of reps for non-lineman participants with 25 and 19 reps, respectively, while both Trinnaman and Linehan put up 14 reps.

Trinnaman continued to shine at the Pro Day after clocking a 4.30 and 4.31 in the 40-yard dash for the fastest times of the day. Hannemann posted a 4.57 in his second run and Lee ran a 4.67 in both of his attempts. Laulile recorded the fastest 40-yard dash time for the linemen with a 4.77.

Trinnaman’s marks in the 40-yard dash, broad jump and vertical jump compared to some of the top marks in his position group recorded at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine. The official statistics from the NFL Combine can be found on nfl.com.

After all of the athletic testing, participants worked out for scouts in their respective position groups performing specific position-related drills. Warner, who stood with his performances at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine, impressed in the position drill portion of the Pro Day. Some post-event comments from several participants at BYU Pro Day are included below.

The NFL Draft will take place Thursday-Saturday, April 26-28, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Linebacker Fred Warner

On his personal performance
“The plan was just to be fresh for the drills today, show off my athleticism and just move around in football-related drills. I was pretty confident in the numbers I put up [at the NFL Combine], and I did well enough to where I could just focus on those drills today.”

On preparing for the NFL
“It’s been a whirlwind. With how hard we trained these last few months, it’s showed in our results. I just need to put my best foot forward for the teams. It’s a business now.”

Wide Receiver Jonah Trinnaman

On his personal performance
“I felt pretty good. I was a little nervous running routes and dropped a couple balls early, but then I got into it. I put up some good numbers today so I’m pretty happy. I’ve done better in the vertical and 40, but I did better in the broad jump today than I’ve done.”

On his next steps of preparation
“Just get better, maintain strength and try to get faster. I’ve been working on a ton of receiver stuff, running routes and catching balls.”

On feedback he received from scouts
“A lot of people like my speed. I ran fast today, which I really wanted to do. I wanted to show how explosive I am, and I feel like I did that. I feel like I could’ve done better, but I think I did a good enough job.”

Defensive Back Micah Hannemann

On his personal performance
On the bench I wanted to hit 20 and I got 19. For the forty I wanted to get a 4.55 or below, and I ended with a 4.57. So besides that, I felt like I did everything that I've been training to do.

On his preparation for Pro Day
Probably the biggest grind that I have had for football. I wasn't in school, which was nice, but every single day two or three times a day for the past three months just training, training, training and getting stronger and working on technique. It's been a lot of fun to see it finally come together.

On feedback he received from scouts
I've got some good feedback from the scouts. They've said that I look smooth. They told me I looked really fast on the three-cone drill and the L-drill, so they like that I can get down and explode out of breaks. A bunch of guys told me that once I get to camp, I just need to do my thing, so that was a good sign. All I need is that one invite to camp, however I get it, just to go and prove myself.

Offensive Lineman Tuni Kanuch

On his personal performance
It felt good. My trainer Chaddy K, I think he is one of the best in the world in what he does. He helped me drop from 29% body fat to 18% and I feel like the numbers are good too. I’m feeling positive about it all and happy for today. For athletes, it's never really good enough, we always want to be better, but on a positive outlook, I'm happy with how everything went down.

On his next steps of preparation
I just have to keep going with my diet. I don't want to go back to where I was. I will be doing a lot of position work because you got to be ready for camps. Hopefully, if you get that opportunity you don't want to let it go to waste. You never know, but I will be just getting ready in that way. I will be grateful any opportunity that I get.

On being back with his former teammates
I love these guys. They're like my family. It's a real-life brotherhood. I'm close to all of them, but especially like Tejan, I was able to play next to him my whole time here and I'm grateful that we were able to do this together.
