Football enters AP poll at No. 25 after 41-7 win at Texas

PROVO, Utah  — Coming off a 41-7 road victory over the Texas Longhorns on Saturday, BYU is now ranked No. 25 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll released Sunday. 

Off to a 2-0 start in 2014, the Cougars enter the top-25 rankings for the first time since being ranked No. 25 in the AP poll on Sept. 9, 2012.

BYU has played both games on the road this year, opening with a 35-10 win at Connecticut followed by its 41-7 triumph over Texas. The Longhorns entered Saturday’s game ranked No. 25 in the USA TODAY Amway Coaches Poll.

The Cougars are listed 27^th overall among others receiving votes in the Amway Coaches Poll released Sunday. With 124 points in the poll, BYU is only five points shy of No. 25 North Carolina in the voting.

With this week's No. 25 AP ranking, BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall has led his teams to a top-25 ranking in eight of his 10 seasons guiding the Cougars. 

Florida State tops both the AP and Amway Coaches rankings released Sunday. Oregon, Alabama, Oklahoma and Auburn finish out the top five in AP while the Coaches rankings give Alabama the second spot followed by Oklahoma, Oregon and Auburn.

This week BYU will play its first home game of the year when it hosts the Houston Cougars on Thursday at 7 p.m. MT in a nationally featured matchup at LaVell Edwards Stadium on ESPN.
