PROVO, Utah — Brigham Young University and San Jose State University today announced the schools have agreed to a home-and-home football series for the 2015 and 2017 seasons.  The teams will meet at Spartan Stadium in San Jose, Calif., on Nov. 7, 2015 with the second game being played at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Oct. 28, 2017.

“We have a large number of Cougar football fans in that part of California,” said BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe. “I like the matchup. It’s a good regional series for our football program.”

BYU and San Jose State have previously met 16 times in football, including five previous home-and-home series. The first meeting was in 1946 and the most recent in 2012. The Spartan’s hold a 10-6 series record over the Cougars.

San Jose State was founded in 1857 and played its first season of intercollegiate football in 1893. The Spartans have won seven conference championships since 1970 and produced more than 70 All-Americans including five first-team selections. San Jose State enters 2013 coming off one of its most successful seasons — an 11-2 record and a consensus ranking of 21st in both major national polls.

BYU was founded in 1875 and played its first season of intercollegiate football in 1922. The Cougars have produced 75 All-Americans and have appeared in 30 bowl games. BYU has been ranked in the Top 25 during seven of eight seasons under head coach Bronco Mendenhall.

Kickoff times and broadcast plans for the series will be announced at a later date.
