Stone Named MWC Pitcher of the Week

Colorado Springs, Colo. (March 21, 2000) -- BYU's Jeff Stone and New Mexico's Donny Sevieri are the McLeodUSA Mountain West Conference Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively.

Stone, a sophomore from Taylorsville, Utah (Taylorsville HS), is the first left handed pitcher to claim conference pitcher of the week honors. In one appearance last week vs. Air Force, he worked eight innings from the mound and faced 29 batters. Stone allowed six hits and one earned run (1.13 ERA), while walking two and striking out six in the 9-1 Cougar victory. Stone has the highest win total in the league with five victories (and two losses) and is a perfect 2-0 in conference play with an 0.53 ERA in 17 innings of action. BYU is a half game ahead of New Mexico in the conference standings at 5-1 and is 14-11 overall.

This is the first Player of the Week honor in Sevieri's career and the third for New Mexico this season. Stone picks up the first Pitcher of the Week honor of his career and the third MWC honor for BYU this season.
