BYU freshman catcher Collin Reuter, a 2021 ABCA/Rawlings High School All-American, has been named the WCC 2022 Preseason Freshman of the Year by D1 Baseball.

Reuter joined the Cougars in the fall after being named the 2021 Mississippi 4A Player of the Year. The 6-3, 210-pound catcher was a four-time First-Team All-Conference selection and led Magnolia Heights High School to two Mississippi 4A State Championships.

Two other BYU freshman, right-handed pitcher Janzen Keisel and infielder Ozzie Pratt join Reuter on the D1 Baseball WCC Impact Freshman list for the 2022 season. Keisel (Gunnison, Utah) was the No. 1 ranked Utah prospect by Prep Baseball Report and Pratt (Oxford, Mississippi) was a 2021 Perfect Game All-American and Reuter’s high school teammate at MHHS.

In addition, several Cougars were named to the D1 Baseball 2022 top prospects list, including the 2021 WCC Co-Freshman of the Year Andrew Pintar (Spanish Fork, Utah), left-handed sophomore pitcher Cy Nielson (Spanish Fork), right-handed sophomore pitcher Carter Smith (Lehi, Utah) and junior righthander Nate Dahle (Tremonton, Utah), a transfer from Southern Idaho.

As a team, the Cougars are projected to finish second in the D1 Baseball 2022 WCC preseason poll behind 2021 conference champion Gonzaga.
