SAN MATEO, Calif. – BYU outfielder Cole Gambill was named the UCU West Coast Conference Player of the Week on Monday for his performance in four games last week. The junior from Alpine, Utah led the Cougars to a 4-0 record, including a victory over No. 26 ranked ASU and a three-game sweep of WCC foe Saint Mary's.

In 15 at bats over the four games, Gambill had eight hits including three home runs, scored six runs, had six RBI and drew three walks. Gambill had a hit in all four games, with multiple hits in three of the four. He amassed 18 total bases, hit .533 and posted an on base percentage of .611.

Gambill’s hitting, combined with tough BYU pitching, was the difference in the Cougars’ win over No. 26 ranked ASU. Gambill went 3-4 at the plate with a double and two home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored 3 in the 8-5 victory.

In 39 games this season, Gambill is hitting .246, with 32 hits, 24 RBI and 21 runs scored in 130 at bats.

The WCC Player of the Week award is the first of Gambill’s BYU career. Before coming to BYU this season, Gambill played two years (2019 and 2020) at Salt Lake Community College, where he was named first team All-Scenic West Athletic Conference.

BYU will take on UVU in the UCCU Crosstown Clash on Tuesday, May 4 at 6 p.m. MDT at UCCU Ballpark. The game will be broadcast live on the BYU Sports Network—BYU Radio 107.9 FM |  BYUcougars.com | BYU Cougars App.
