Cougars face UC San Diego Tuesday night

LA JOLLA, Calif. — Up next for BYU baseball is a midweek game at UC San Diego on Tuesday, May 2. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. PDT at Triton Ballpark in La Jolla, California. 

BROADCAST PLANS. Tuesday's game will be broadcast live on the BYU Radio App and simulcast on 107.9 in the northern Utah market. Jason Shepherd will have the call for BYU Radio. UCSD will also broadcast the game live on ESPN+. 

COUGAR-VS-TRITON HISTORY. The contest will be the first meeting between BYU and UC San Diego in baseball. The two universities have previously competed in softball once, men’s tennis twice and 44 times in men’s volleyball.  

BYU REVIEW. The Cougars enter the game in La Jolla with an 18-23 record. BYU played a three-game series over the weekend at home with West Coast Conference foe Portland. The Cougars won the first game on Thursday over the Pilots 9-8, before dropping games two and three (10-12, 8-22) on Friday and Saturday. 

TRITON RECAP. UC San Diego is 25-16 in 2023, with a home record of 19-7. The Tritons are coming off a three-game sweep of Cal Poly over the weekend on the road, with scores of 5-1, 8-6 and 7-6. 

UP NEXT. Following the Tuesday game in California, BYU resumes West Coast Conference play with a three-game series with San Diego, May 4-6, at Fowler Park.
