SAN BRUNO, Calif. - BYU senior infielder Casey Jacobsen was awarded the Rawlings West Coast Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Jacobsen had six hits, four runs, three RBIs and two home runs on the week, but it was his efforts in critical situations that made a difference for the Cougars. Against archrival Utah down 2-1 in the eighth on Tuesday, Jacobsen singled to right field to bring in the game tying run, then later scored on Danny Gelalich’s game-winning grand slam.

Jacobsen added two home runs in BYU’s series against Santa Clara, hitting a solo shot in game one before hitting another in game two in BYU’s two-run win. He had no errors in four starts at third base, helping the Cougars claim their third WCC title.

The award is Jacobsen's first of his career and the fifth for a BYU player this season. Jackson Cluff has won three and Brock Hale has one.

The Cougars are ranked No. 24 in the nation and hold the No. 1 seed going into this week's WCC Tournament. BYU will face LMU on Thursday, May 23, at 3 p.m. PT.
